It is known for its wide sandy beach, its pier and a relaxed beach-town atmosphere with surfing, fishing and seafood restaurants. In winter, a eucalyptus grove at the edge of town hosts large clusters of overwintering monarch butterflies, and the nearby Oceano Dunes are known for off-highway driving on the sand.
