Lao Chai is a village in the Muong Hoa Valley near Sa Pa in Lao Cai province, in the mountains of northwestern Vietnam. It is home mainly to Hmong communities and is surrounded by sweeping terraced rice fields set against the Hoang Lien Son range. Lao Chai is a common stop on trekking routes from Sa Pa, often combined with the neighbouring village of Ta Van, and offers homestays in local houses.
