Where to Stay in Nosara: Guiones, Pelada, or Nosara Town
Three names, one booking site, and a walk to the beach that decides your whole week
Marta DaviStay in Playa Guiones if you want to walk to a surf break, a coffee and dinner without starting a car. Stay in Playa Pelada if you want quiet, a small cove and a short hop to everything else. Stay in Nosara town only if you are here for local life, a long stay or a budget that beats the beach, because the town sits inland and the sand is a drive away.
All three say "Nosara" on a booking site. They are not the same trip, and the difference is not vibe. It is how many times a day you get into a vehicle.

Two more names come up while you search. Playa Garza sits south and is a fishing bay rather than a base. Ostional, the turtle refuge, lies north on a rougher road. Neither is a first time base unless someone who knows the road has told you it is fine on your dates.
Which is better without a car, Guiones or Pelada?
Guiones. It carries the density of restaurants, surf rentals and shops, so a well placed room there can cover a week on foot. Pelada is quieter and prettier at low tide, but a car free stay there means committing to bikes, taxis or a walk whenever you want a choice of dinner.
There is a walking route between north Guiones and Pelada through the trees behind the beach. Travelers also link the two along the sand, though a rocky point sits in the way and the tide decides whether that works. Check a tide table the morning you try it, not the night before.
The question no listing answers: how far up the road are you?
Every guide tells you Guiones is busier and Pelada is calmer. None of them tells you the thing that actually breaks Nosara stays, which is that "Playa Guiones" covers a grid of side roads running back from the beach, and a place eight minutes up one of them in the dark, in the rain, with sand in your shoes, is a different holiday from a place two minutes up.
You can settle this before you pay. Message the host or hotel and ask five things:
How many minutes is it to walk to the nearest beach access, and which access is it? Ask for walking minutes. Driving minutes hide the problem.
Is the last stretch paved, and is it steep? The main arteries and the side roads are not the same surface.
What does a standard sedan do at your gate after heavy rain? A host who says "you will want clearance" has just saved you a rental argument.
Where is the nearest place to buy groceries, and can I walk there with bags?
Is the walk home from the restaurants lit?
Any host worth staying with answers all five in one message. A vague answer is itself an answer.
Green season moves the line, and right now it is moving in your favour
Nosara sits in the Pacifico Norte climate region, so the national forecast for that region is the one that applies to your road.
The Instituto Meteorologico Nacional sub seasonal forecast issued for 28 September to 25 October 2026 puts dry conditions across the Pacific for the first two weeks, then intensifies that to very dry for the Pacifico Norte from 12 October, with weekly rainfall in the region estimated at 1 to 70 mm. That is unusual for October and it means the dirt is likelier to be dust than mud on those dates.
Treat that as a forecast for a window, not a rule about the season. A single heavy week undoes it. For couples, the walk home decides more than the beach does
The beaches here are close enough together that nobody has a bad one. What differs is the hour between the last plate and bed.
In Guiones that hour is a five minute stroll past other people doing the same thing. In Pelada it is darker, quieter and usually shorter, with fewer places open to leave in the first place. From Nosara town it is a drive, which means one of you is not having the second glass of wine.
Pick the version of that hour you want, then let it choose the area. It is a better filter than any photo of a pool.
Who should sleep where
A first surf week together. Guiones, close to an access point. You will be back and forth to the beach three times a day and the walking is the point.
A quiet week, or an anniversary. Pelada, with a car or a scooter for dinner. You trade convenience for mornings where the cove is yours.
A month, or working remotely. Nosara town or the inland edge of Guiones. More space, more local life, and you were going to need a vehicle anyway.
Turtles on your list. Still Guiones or Pelada. Go to Ostional on a guided trip rather than sleeping out there, and ask about the road first.
