Some of the best wildlife encounters on the Osa Peninsula happen outside the national park. The Tapir Trail runs through the biological corridor that surrounds Corcovado, a mix of primary and secondary forest where animals move freely between the protected area and the coast.

Over 4 to 5 hours, your local naturalist guide reads the forest for you: fresh claw marks on a strangler fig, a tree frog resting on a heliconia leaf, the call of howler monkeys in the distance. Tapirs, coatis, monkeys and a wide range of birds all use this corridor.

Because it is outside the park, no entry permit is needed, which makes it one of the most flexible tours in Drake Bay. It is an ideal complement to a dive day, or a great half-day plan when the sea is too rough for a boat trip.
