Located in the beautiful Pacific Ocean, about 30 km off the coast of the Osa Peninsula, it is part of the province of Puntarenas. Caño Island is considered of great geographic and archaeological importance. With fantastic underwater visibility, it is possible to observe a large number of marine species during most of the year, although the best season extends from December to June.

Dive sites and marine life:

Caño Island has a series of exceptional dive sites with different characteristics. Among the following, we can highlight “Bajo del Diablo”, “El Barco”, “El Ancla” and “La Cueva”. The sites near the island present a topography with a bottom of volcanic origin, which gives home to the most diverse coral reefs in the country.

During the dives, it is common to observe white-tip sharks, sea turtles, manta rays, mobulas, seahorses, large schools of barracuda, and other species of fish. Generally, from the boat, we can observe dolphins, turtles and during migration season humpback whales. The average annual visibility is 12 to 30 meters, the average water temperature is 28°C (74°F).
