La Roca Canyoning

Canyoning near La Fortuna is one of the best ways to feel the rainforest up close: you go down the canyon the way the water does.

This 4-in-1 adventure follows a canyon along the Arenal River, close to Arenal Volcano. You rappel down four waterfalls between 15 and 28 meters (50 to 92 feet) high, cross the canyon twice on ziplines, jump into natural pools (three optional jumps) and walk through the rainforest beside the river.

No experience is needed. Your bilingual guides explain everything before you start and assist you on every descent, so it works for first-timers and families with children from age 6.

After the canyon, change and shower at the base, then sit down to a traditional Costa Rican lunch.

Good to know

1. Minimum age 6. Beginner-friendly, no experience required.
2. Departures at 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.
3. Pickup is included from hotels in central La Fortuna. Pickups outside this area may have an extra cost. Staying in an Airbnb? Share your location when you book.
4. Moderate walking on rainforest trails. Participants should be in good general health.
5. Not recommended during pregnancy or for guests with heart conditions or recent arm or leg injuries.
6. You will get wet: wear quick-dry clothes and bring a change for afterwards.
