Whittier is a city in Los Angeles County, California, set at the foot of the Puente Hills southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Founded by Quakers and named after the poet John Greenleaf Whittier, it is home to Whittier College. The city has a historic Uptown district with shops and restaurants, tree-lined residential neighborhoods and hillside trails in the Puente Hills Habitat Preserve.
