Mobile is a port city on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, at the head of Mobile Bay where the Mobile River meets the bay. One of the oldest cities on the Gulf Coast, it was founded by the French in the early eighteenth century and retains a historic downtown with wrought-iron balconies and oak-lined streets. Mobile is known for its long-running Mardi Gras tradition, among the oldest in the United States, and for the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
