Chinle is a community in northeastern Arizona within the Navajo Nation, set in the high desert of the Colorado Plateau. It is best known as the gateway to Canyon de Chelly National Monument, whose sandstone canyon walls shelter ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings and Navajo homesteads that are still farmed today. Visitors use the town as a base for rim drives and for guided tours into the canyon led by Navajo guides.
