United Kingdom · Wales

Caernarfon is a royal town in Gwynedd, in north-west Wales, on the shore of the Menai Strait facing Anglesey. It is dominated by Caernarfon Castle, a massive medieval fortress built under Edward I that, with the town walls, forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is a strong center of Welsh language and culture and a gateway to the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), with heritage railway connections into the hills.
