Cajamarca

Peru

Cajamarca is a city in the northern highlands of Peru, set in a fertile Andean valley. It is historically significant as the place where the Inca emperor Atahualpa was captured by Spanish conquistadors in 1532, an event recalled at the site known as the Ransom Room. Visitors come for its colonial churches and plaza, the thermal baths of Banos del Inca, the ancient aqueduct of Cumbe Mayo and the region's dairy products.
